Unfortunately,
much is not being done in Africa in general and Nigeria in particular to arrest
the unfolding cancer epidemic. A whole lot of people are dying of cancer and
most times they get treated for other illnesses until it is too late. We can
remember the story of Mayowa of #savemayowa campaign, she suffered from cancer
and a fundraising campaign was set up on her behalf and supported by a lot of
good willing Nigerians to save her.

Unfortunately,
cancer took Mayowa’s life and Nigeria lost one of her best citizens. In other
developed countries, Mayowa might have had a long shot at surviving, had the
cancer been diagnosed at an earlier stage. One is left with no other option but
to wonder why we lack very good cancer treatment hospitals and experienced
cancer doctors in Nigeria.
It goes
without saying that with well equipped Oncology centers and personnel, the rate
of cancer deaths in Nigeria today will definitely come down..
This
misdiagnosis of cancers and lack of good of cancer treatment hospitals in
Nigeria has led Mr. Frank West Ndukwe Aja-Ukpabi, a 10 year standing Cancer survivor himself, to embark on a
drive to set up a holistic Cancer Treatment Centre In Nigeria to help others
beat cancer like he did. This is Out of patriotism and the need to save the
lives of his fellow countrymen,Women and Children. This center will be
dedicated to Cancer prevention, Treatment and management of life after
Cancer..

Speaking
with Mr. Frank, He expressed his vision as born out of giving back to the
society in appreciation of the fact that God gave him his life back after being
written off as well as seeing the increased rates of cancer deaths in Nigeria
today. He mentioned also that cancer is the worst ailment to ever happen to
anybody and should not even be wished to your worst enemy, he also expressed
pity for people who are currently battling cancer and gives his support and
prayers.
He also
expresses his gratitude to his wife who stood by him during his battle with
cancer and also thanked his wife’s employer, MTN Nigeria, for providing a
lifeline to him by taking him and his wife to South Africa for his Cancer
treatment.
However,
Frank’s initiative to set up a holistic Cancer Treatment Center in Nigeria
cannot be achieved by him alone and should be seen as a national project. He
calls on like-minded Nigerians and corporate organizations to support this
initiative and donate as little as they can towards the cancer center.
