LOBBYING BILL SOON TO BE LEGALISED BY SENATE

As negative it may sound, some of the Senators of the Nigerian Senate have made reasonable steps to see that lobbying is legalized in Nigeria. The bill already has been passed for a second reading.
Sen. Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) Who supported the “Bill for an Act for the Regulation and Registration of Lobbyists in Nigeria and for other matters connected therewith, 2016’’ expressed deep believe that the National Assembly needs this at this point in time, he also said that as negative as it may sound, lobbying is important at every level of government.
In his words “The bill will create stricter registration requirement for lobbyists and also require lobbyists to disclose how much they make and spend on lobbying.
It will ban lobbyist from paying for gifts and food as a means of inducement and it would give oversight agencies more powers to investigate violation of ethics laws,”
Other lawmakers such as Sen. Ben Murry Brcce AKA Common Sense Senator,  Sen. Godswill Akpabio, and Sen.Mohammed Ali Ndume where in concrete support for the bill.
The bill is to have the lobbyist registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and with the Ministry of Justice to practice as lobbyist in the Senate or House of Representatives.
