Youths in Kano Sets Federal Lawmaker's House on Fire.

Some youths suspected to be political thugs, on Wednesday set ablaze the residence of Senator Kabiru Gaya, in Gaya Local Government area of Kano State.

The youths also set ablaze the campaign office and poultry farm of the House of Representatives member from the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud.

An eye witness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the incident occurred around 11 am on Wednesday.

He said that the police in the area were still trying to contain the situation.

“Our men in Gaya are still trying to bring the situation under control but as soon as we get details of the incident, we will keep you posted”, he said.

Harry Potter, Game of Thrones e.tc Can Damage a Child's Brain

A United Kingdom headmaster, Gaeme  Whiting has publicly said that movies like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Hunger games and other epic adventure movies are dangerous to a child's brain.

Whiting said
“Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, and Terry Pratchett, to mention only a few of the modern world’s ‘must-haves… can be bought without a special licence, and can damage the sensitive subconscious brains of young children, many of whom may be added to the current statistics of mentally ill young children,” Whiting wrote in a blog post on the Acorn School website where he is a headmaster.

He based his opinion on the fact that these books contain deeply insensitive and addictive material which he claimed could encourage difficult behaviour in children.

He dismissed them as dark, demonic literature, “sprinkled with ideas of magic, of control and of ghostly and frightening stories.”

However, he said that the adult mind can process the materials displayed that is displayed.

Six Traits Companies Look for When Hiring

These Secrets no doubts can help anybody make it in wall street, or
anywhere you find yourself.
Private equity billionaire David Rubenstein of The Carlyle Group (CB) licks SIsix traits he looks for when hiring young people.
“As I hire young people, I always look for certain characteristics. I try to have them myself to some extent, maybe I don’t,” he said during his opening remarks at the SALT Conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
These are the characteristics Rubenstein says make a success in the financial services world:
  1. Intelligent: “Reasonable intelligence. Not genius. If you’re too smart, apparently it can backfire. Reasonable intelligence.”
  2. Hard-working: “Good work quotient, but not obsessive compulsive. But a pretty good work quotient.”
  3. Focused: “Ability to focus. Focus and narrow your expertise in one area where you can actually know something better than anyone else.”
  4. Leader: “Exert you know how to be a leader. You can be a leader by communicating with other people three ways— One, by example. George Washington at Valley Forge communicated that he was prepared to stay with his troops no matter what. Leading by example. Leading by communicating by words—learning how to speak the English language in a way that communicates some kind of authority and leadership. And learning how to write. Very few people that I hire today really are that talented at writing. I encourage them to learn how to write better or to orally communicate much better.”
  5. Ethical: “Most importantly, I look for people who have ethical standards that are very high.
  6. Knows themselves: “I’m also looking for people that know what they want to do with their money and know why they want to achieve success in the financial services world.”
He noted that it’s been difficult in the last year or so, but those characteristics he listed are the kinds that he thinks will produce success.

Drug Trafficking 2 Nigerians and 8 Others to be Executed

Two Nigerians are among 10 foreigners whose execution stakes are being prepared in Indonesia for being involved in drug trafficking.

A media report on Wednesday said in Jakarta that 10 foreigners, including two Nigerians, were among 15 convicts on death row in Indonesia scheduled to be put to death.

Liliek Darmanto, Central Java Police Spokesman, confirmed that authorities were preparing a new round of executions.

He said one Pakistani, two Nigerians, two Senegalese, one Zimbabwean and four Chinese nationals, were among those to be executed.

“There are five Indonesians, one woman and four men and there are 10 foreign citizens.

Darmanto said among other foreigners on death row for drug trafficking were Mary-Jane Veloso from the Philippines, Lindsay Sandiford from Britain and Frenchman Serge Atlaoui, but did not clear if they were among those scheduled to be put to death.

He said no date for the execution had been set, but that 150 police shooters had been appointed to carry out the task.

“They have practiced for days, so that the execution can be conducted any time.

Under Indonesian law, each convict would face a squad of 10 shooters.

Last year Indonesia executed 14 convicts, all but two of them foreigners, in a move that drew international condemnation.

At least 121 people are currently on death row in Indonesia, including 35 foreigners, mostly convicted of drug-related crimes, according to the Justice Ministry.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who took office in 2014, has taken a tough stance against drug trafficking, saying that the country was facing a drug emergency.

" Buhari is not God" Niger Delta Militants

the Niger Delta Avengers has made it open to all that pipeline vandalism and reck of nation properties will continues no matter who the president think he is. In a statement released the NDA replied buhari that " he is not God

The group, in a statement yesterday by its spokesman, Mark Anthony, said the entire Nigerian Army was incapable of protecting all pipelines in the Niger Delta.

Anthony said that as at the time they surrendered their weapons during the reign of President Goodluck Jonathan, they made it clear to the world that bombing of pipelines was not over.

While demanding the sack of Paul Boroh, Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, for trying to muscle militants with threat, Anthony stated: “We have not condemned the current bombing because when we surrendered, we told the world that bombing of pipelines was not over yet.”

“Those bombing pipelines in Delta State should not behave like cowards if they are truly fighting the interest of Niger Delta. They should be bold enough to come out. When we were bombing, our leader General John Togo did not hide his face. We dealt with the Nigerian Army, and we were not hiding.”

According to the NDLF, “They should not hide their identity. Buhari is not God and they should not be scared of him. JTF should not attack and arrest innocent people in Ijaw communities; they should go for the real saboteurs.

“We told former President Goodluck Jonathan that Nigerian Army couldn’t protect pipelines in the creek. The current Amnesty Chairman Paul Boroh does not know the boys in Niger Delta. He is not in touch with Niger Delta major ex-agitators. Buhari should sack him immediately and appoint another chairman like Kingsley Kuku, who knows the boys in the creek. This will help the current oil war,” the NDLF spokesman man stated.

It would be recalled that the NDLF’s former leader John Togo, who claimed that their main goal is to secede from Nigeria and gain independence from Nigeria, was believed killed on July 19, 2011 in an air strike near Warri, Delta State.

With the death of Togo the NDLF seemed weak and many members joined the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta. Although many members left around 2,500 remained in the NDLF. For the next two years they attacked oil installations on and off.

Violent Herdsmen not Nigerians, Government to Set up Ranches..

The herdsmen inflicting violence on their host communities in the country are not Nigerians, let alone being the usual Fulani known for cattle rearing and roving grazing in Nigeria. This was the position of the Federal Government yesterday.

The government also announced plans to establish cattle ranches ‎across the country as part of the solution to the perennial clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

The Minister of State for Agriculture, Heineken Lokpobiri, who spoke at a public hearing convened by the Senate as part of its investigation into the clashes, said that government believed that those attacking villages and killing people were still elements of the Boko Haram insurgents.

In the heat of arguments that ensued during the public hearing, the Chairman of the Senate Joint Committee, Abdullahi Adamu, had to shout down some stakeholders who spoke against the creation of ‎grazing reserve routes.

The minister pointed out that the ranches would restrict cattle in one place, a development he said would result in more productivity from the cattle.

Unveiling the plans of the Federal Government towards ending the crises at the joint public hearing organised by the Senate committees on agriculture, rural development and national security and intelligence, Lokpobiri, said not less than nine states across the federation had given 5,000 hectares of land each to the Federal Government for the establishment of the ranches.

He said the ranches, when created, would end the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farming communities.

“Available statistics in government show that contrary to media reports that these violent herdsmen are the conventional Nigerian Fulani, they are not, as none of those apprehended was able to speak any of the Nigerian languages, giving strong credence to the possibility of the violent herdsmen to be another set of terrorists in the mode of Boko Haram.

“The problem is not Nigerian but regional, more so, when the Nigerian Fulani man has always been known to be a peace-loving person,” he said.

The minister said though the country had 415 grazing reserves for the herdsmen to feed their cattle, most of the reserves, being in the Northern part of the country, were grassless due to the problem of desertification.

He explained further that ranches being the modern way of rearing cattle and achieving the best of productivity in animal husbandry, would make Nigeria have just 19 million cows with a population of 160 million people to measure up with Brazil which has 220 million cows with similar human population with Nigeria.

The stakeholders from various ethnic nationalities like Tivs, Idoma, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and South-South, through their representatives, supported the planned establishment of ranches, but kicked against continuation of the grazing reserve routes policy.

They argued that it would be wrong for the Federal Government to deploy public resources to establish grazing reserves for herdsmen.

On hearing this submission, Abdullahi Adamu said: “Nobody can stop the government from acquiring land anywhere. Government is government. If anybody thinks he is violent, ‎government has the monopoly of violence.”

Also, the Fulani herdsmen under the auspices of Meiyetti Allah insisted that grazing reserves routes should be sustained. They suggested some measures which include the establishment of a ministry of livestock.

The recommendations of the Fulani herdsmen as contained in a paper by the National Secretary of the Nyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Baba Othman Ngeizarma, which attracted support from the Sultan of Sokoto ‎and the Emir of Kano, are:

. That the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development should work with the ‘Ministries of Water Resources, Environment, National Planning, Foreign Affairs, state governments, farmer organisations, pastoralists organisations and community leaders to preserve and demarcate trans-human routes and cattle resting points with support from technical and financial partners.

. Review of past interventions and reports, and work out a comprehensive livestock development action plan under the auspices of the National Council on Agriculture for a smooth transformation of livestock production, including all actors in the value chain from producers (pastoralists) to transporters, markers, consumers and dealers in livestock by-products.

. Establishment of a Federal Ministry for Livestock Development in Nigeria in line with the practice in most African countries that have large livestock populations like Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroun and Central Africa Republic.

. Provision of funding for grazing reserves development from the Central Bank of Nigeria intervention funds, and support from technical financial and development partners like the World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, European Union and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (lFAD) and others; and

‎. Working in close conjunction with the ‘state governments in devising means that will provide for close monitoring and detection of trans- boundary movements, trans-boundary animal diseases, compliance with the international transhumance certificate, vaccination areas, livestock markets, health of animals, abattoirs, slaughter houses and marketing of meat.

Meanwhile, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that his government would not release any portion of the state’s land, as grazing reserves for Fulani herdsmen.

In a statement in Ado-Ekiti yesterday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, he said the governor made the declaration in an interview programme on the local radio and television stations in the state.

He, however, said that Fayose would support a situation whereby state governments establish ranches for herdsmen in their local communities.

The governor said moving large ‎herds of cattle from one point to another is no longer fashionable, going by the attendant risks and conflicts being generated.

He declared: “By the powers conferred on me by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, I reserve the rights to allocate land in the state to people and we will not give an inch of our land to any cow breeder.”
