FRAUD: EFCC ARRAIGNS APC CHIEFTAIN FOR #36M FRAUD

 EFCC on Tuesday, arraigned a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Prince Benjamin Benedict Apugo on a three count charge bordering on obtaining N36,000,000 by false pretence.

He was alleged to have fraudulently sold six (6) plots of land valued at N36.000,000 (Thirty Six Million Naira Only) belonging to the Nigeria Railway Cooperation located at Umunwulari Nkata Ibeku layout, Planning Scheme Umuahia.
Apugo, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him before  Justice Osiagor of the Federal High Court ,Umuahia Abia State. His plead however led Joshua Saidu to apply for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending trial. R.M Udechukwu (SAN) Apugo’s lawyer pleaded with the court to allow the accused to continue with the administrative bail granted him by EFCC.
The court, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10, 000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira Only) and two sureties. The sureties are to be senior civil servant, minimum of deputy director and should have landed properties within Umuahia, and the documents kept under court register.
The defendant Chief Apogu is to remain in court custody till the requirement are met and the judge charged both counsel and the court register to ensure strict adherence to the bail stipulations
The EFCC said that Chief Apugo’s arraignment was sequel to his arrest on Friday September 30, 2016 following a warrant issued by the court which considered his numerous attempts to evade taking a plea on the charge preferred against him.
The matter has been adjourned to 17th and 18th November for trial.

SUSPECTS BLOW UP SELF DURING POLICE OPERATION

Two suicide bombers detonated their explosives during a police operation in the Turkish capital Ankara on Saturday after officers called on the suspects to surrender, state media reported.

They set off the car bomb they had prepared, the official Anadolu news agency said, adding that the two suspects were dead. There were no immediate reports of any other casualties in the blast, which occurred Saturday morning in the outskirts of the city.
Ankara governor Ercan Topaca told reporters at the scene it was “likely” that they had connections to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
“The materials used, the construction and the way it was planned point to the PKK a little,” he said, quoted by Anadolu.
The PKK — proscribed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and US — has been waging a 32-year insurgency against the state in the country’s southeast. Violence returned to the region after the collapse of a two-year ceasefire last year.
The governor said police began an operation early on Saturday to find the suspects after a tip-off came from Diyarbakir, a mainly Kurdish province in Turkey’s southeast. In televised comments, Topaca also said the suspects were a male born in the eastern province of Bingol and an unidentified female. She was later named in Turkish media.
He added that the authorities were looking for a third person and that “interestingly” the suicide bombers hung a Turkish flag on the car.

Senate Condems Invasion of Judges Homes and Arrest

The Nigerian senate has condemned the disgraceful invasion of the homes of Nigerian serving judges and the arrest and detention of the judges whom where alleged to have participated in corrupt practices by the Department of State Security.
Senator Joshua lidani, chairman senate committee on judiciary tabled the issue of the arrest on the Tuesday senate meeting
The senate president, Bukola Saraki, clarified that the need to fight corruption is very much important but the fight must be scoped within the constitution and human right circle. He however , charged the committee on judiciary, human right and legal matters to review the matter as related to laws establishing security agency and report back to the house

22nd Nigerian Economic Summit Focuses on Promoting "Made in Nigeria"

Ever since the 1^st  Nigeria Economic Summit in 1993, a lot of economic  issues have been discussed and tabled with a lot swept under the rung, however the 22^nd Economic Summit, 2016 opened up with intense heat and serious talks on pushing and supporting “Made-in Nigeria” products and services, which also happens to be the theme of the summit.

The Chairman, Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) Board Committee, Adedoyin Salami, made the call on Monday in Abuja at the opening of the 22nd edition of the Nigeria Economic Summit (NES 22).
“If ‘made-in-Nigeria’ must succeed, it should not be the challenge of the federal government alone. All the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital territory (FCT) must have a role to play,”
Salami called on deliberate diversion and shift of Nigerian economic dependence on oil, stressing that the over dependence on the oil sector has dealt a major blow on current economic state. He also called to the Board’s attention that Nigerian biggest customers in oil are already producing shale oil and in some cases searching for alternative solution to oil , he said “The dynamics of oil has changed, with the production of shale oil. The cost of producing shale oil imposes a cap on oil prices, with 72 countries in the world potentially capable of producing shale oil, with Nigeria’s key customers, United States and China already producing shale oil or looking for alternatives to our oil,”
He also stressed on the importance of making the private sector stronger as it will incredibly woo foreign investors.
In addition The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, subscribed to the idea of government supporting private sector and informed that the current government has already taken steps toward that. He said “As a Government we have taken steps to encourage our officials to buy made in Nigeria products. We have also been working with the private Sector and other related stakeholders to encourage more consumption of Made in Nigeria goods and services. We believe that with more patronage, Nigerian producers will be encouraged to improve on quality and create jobs for our teeming youth.”
The NES summit will commence its day two sessions focused on the ICT, Small and Medium Enterprises, Micro Credit, services and finance.
