IDP To Receive Custom Sized Rice and Food Stuff.

President Muhammudu Buhari has directed the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, to transfer relief items in various customs warehouses to designated officials for onward distribution to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

The Service Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeniyi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday.

According to Mr. Adeniyi, the Comptroller General has set up a national committee that would coordinate and manage the movement and the transfer of seized relief items to give effect to the President’s directive.

He said the relief items currently in government warehouses for distribution to the IDPs included goods that had been forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“It is important to stress that these items are only those that have been condemned properly in the competent court of law and have been forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“They include food items like rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti and essential items like soap, used clothing materials, mosquito nets, beddings and others,’’ he said.

Mr. Adeniyi said that members of the committee were drawn from Customs Service, Army, Air Force, Police, Immigration Service and the EFCC.

TRUMP PROMISES NIGERIANS 'NIGERIA MUST GO BAGS' IF HE WINS

“IF I WIN, YOU ALL LEAVE”
American Billionaire and Republican Presidential
Front-runner, Donald Trump, has shot a subtle
warning to the Nigerian Community in the United
States, after he said all Nigerians would be made
to leave the country “when he becomes
President”.
He made the “threat” during a rally at Wichita,
Kansas. According to Donald Trump, Nigerians
ad Mexicans have taken all the jobs meant for
honest hard working Americans.
“To Make America great again, we need to get rid
of the Muslims, Mexicans and the Africans,
especially the Nigerians. They take all our jobs,
jobs meant for honest hard working Americans,
and when we don’t give them the jobs, the Muslims
blow us up” , Trump said.
“We need to get the Africans out. Not the blacks,
the Africans. Especially the Nigerians. They’re
everywhere. I went for a rally in Alaska and met
just one African in the entire state. Where was he
from? Nigeria! He’s in Alaska taking our jobs.
They’re in Houston taking our jobs. Why can’t they
stay in their own country? Why? I’ll tell you why.
Because they are corrupt. Their Governments are
so corrupt, they rob the people blind and bring it
all here to spend. And their people run away and
come down here and take our jobs! We can’t have
that! If I become president, we’ll send them all
home. We’ll build a wall at the Atlantic Shore. Then
maybe we’ll re-colonize them because obviously
they did not learn a damn thing from the British!”
His speech was met with raucous applause by
the 10,000 strong predominantly Caucasian
audience. What this portends for Nigeria in the
event of the Trump victory is still unclear, but
the Nigerian Ambassador to the US has so far
allayed fears of all Nigerians living in the USA,
although we gather he has secretly packed his
bags and is set to move to Mexico or Canada if
Trump becomes President.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University,
Prof. Vincent Tenebe, said in his address
at the ceremony that Obasanjo was
among other notable Nigerians in the list
of the 10,653 graduands in which 15 of
them made first class honours.
Tenebe listed other outstanding
graduands as the Emir of Hadejia,
Jigawa State, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar
and the traditional ruler of Awgu, Enugu
State, Igwe Felix Okechukwu.
Others were over 70 years Rear Admiral
Orisha, (Rtd), who bagged fist class in
Mathematics and a 78-year-old, Chief
Femi Balogun, who bagged LL.B from the
School of Law.
The vice-chancellor also listed a blind
student, Mr Obinna Bede, who bagged a
Bachelor of Arts (English), degree and
Udo Effiong, who had the highest
cumulative point in first class grade of
4.71.
“It is interesting to note that Obasanjo
will be graduating with a Master’s
Degree (MA-Christian Theology) having
met the requirements for the award
during this convocation.
“Having been given the admission to
study MA/PhD in Christian Theology,
Obasanjo will continue with his Ph.D
fully.
“This is very unique considering his age
and commitments; he also made a very
good cumulative grade point,’’ the VC
said.
Tenebe said that NOUN had achieved its
primary mandate of having study centres
in all the state capitals across the
country.
According to him, the institution will
commence the last aspect of its mandate,
which is to establish study centres in all
the 774 local governments in the next 15
years.
He said that the total number of study
centre across the country stood at 72
alongside four new research centres.
“We will not relent in our appeal to the
Council for Legal Education to give
NOUN Law graduates the opportunity to
attend the Law School and be called to
the Bar.
“If other countries such as UK, India,
South Africa, Tanzania, among others
allow their Open Universities’ Law
graduates to attend Law School and are
called to the Bar, Nigeria has no
justifiable reasons to hold her Open
University graduates down.
“We must move forward in all these
areas as a progressive country,’’ he said.
In his address, NOUN’s Chancellor, Igwe
Lawrence Agubuzu, said that there were
59 open universities in the World,
adding that their graduates were treated
differently from graduates of
conventional universities.
Agubuzu called on the National Youth
Service Corps and the Nigerian Law
School to allow NOUN graduates to
participate in their progammes.
NAN reports that Chief Obasanjo
received the award by proxy as he was
said to unavoidably absent.
NOUN’s 2016 convocation was held for
the first time at University Village, Jabi,
which was allocated to the institution in
1983.

Wellbeing Foundation Africa Creates Awareness On Lassa Fever In Pregnancy

With the recent outbreak of Lassa fever in Nigeria, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) has taken rapid steps to elevate awareness of this deadly disease and its prevention.

Having already claimed at least 41 lives of the nearly hundred reported cases in at least 10 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa has released info-graphics and behavior change communications to equip the general public with critical information that can potentially save lives.

An acute hemorrhagic fever caused by the Lassa virus, Lassa fever can be transmitted through contact with an infected rodent or contact with the bodily secretions of an infected person, including mother-to-child transmission and consumption of infected food items.

Focusing on the effect of Lassa fever on pregnancy, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa shared that pregnant women, especially those in the third trimester of pregnancy, face a higher risk of contracting the disease – which causes mortality in 95% of cases.

As studies have indicated, the increased likelihood of mortality at this stage of pregnancy is due to immunosuppression associated with the third trimester of pregnancy.

To prevent Lassa fever, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, led by H.E. Mrs. Toyin Saraki, has placed emphasis on hand-washing and rodent control, while warning against contact with infected bodily fluids.

In light of the prodigious threat posed by Lassa fever to an already fragile public healthcare system, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa also aims to facilitate capacity building for healthcare workers, especially in the areas of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH), in order to minimize morbidities and mortalities resulting from the disease.

Rene Angelil, the discoverer , manager and husband of the famous Canadian pop diva Celine dion  just kicked the bucket , after battling with cancer. Dion announced his passing in a Twitter message, saying: “Rene Angelil passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer.”A spokesman for the singer, Marc Olivier, said more information would be given in the coming days, but for now the family wished to be left to mourn in private.News of Angelil’s death triggered an outpouring of sympathy from Dion’s fans, with the singer’s name trending on Twitter worldwide.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted his condolences to Dion and to Angelil’s six children, including three from a previous marriage.Angelil’s home city of Montreal announced that flags would be flown at half mast in his honor, as mayor Denis Coderre paid tribute to “a monument of the entertainment world.”Born in Quebec to Lebanese-Syrian immigrants, Angelil started out in music dabbling in yeye — French 60s music — beforetrying his hand at comedy, and finally settling on a career in music management. As a talent agent, he signed one of the biggest names in Quebec music, Ginette Reno, but the arrangement ended abruptly in 1981, leaving Angelil destitute and desperate.Just then, another opportunity arose. At age 12, Dion had recorded a demo tape with her mother and sent it to Angelil. He was so struck by her voice that he signed her to an exclusive management contract — mortgaging his house to finance her debut album.“I’d never heard anything like it. For me, it was the most beautiful voice in the world,” he would recall in interviews. The businessman set out to make Dion the biggest singer in the world. His protegee and future wife went on to become one of pop’s music’s best-known voices, winning five Grammy awards includingfor the “Titanic” theme song “My Heart Will Go On,” and collaborating with stars from Stevie Wonder to Barbra Streisand.– ‘All my life’ –Behind the scenes, Angelil invested Dion’s earnings from concerts and 220 million albums sold worldwide in restaurants, dance clubs and golf courses. A year later he stepped down as Dion’s manager — a position he held for more than 30years.After taking a break from performing to care for her husband, Dion returned to performing on the Strip in 2015 at Angelil’s urging. In a candid interview with USA Today she described dealing with the pending loss of “theonly boyfriend I’ve ever had” and “the leader ofthe band all my life.”In a soft voice, she recalled: “I’ll say, ‘You’re scared? I understand. Talk to me about it,'” pausing before adding: “And Rene says to me, ‘I want to die in your arms.’ OK, fine, I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms.”
